Applications must be completed at the café unless you’ve received prior approval from IndyAdopts staff to complete them elsewhere.

Once you’ve met your potential new companion, it’s time to begin the application process.

• Application Fee: $20 for one cat, $30 for two cats

• Note: All fees are nonrefundable and help us continue caring for cats in our program.

Our cats come from several local shelters, and each has its own adoption application. After completing the acknowledgement and photo release (if applicable), you’ll fill out the correct shelter’s application at the café.

Depending on which cat you’re adopting, you’ll complete one of the following:

• ➡️ Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) Application

• ➡️ Johnson County Animal Shelter (JCAS) Application

For IACS Adoptions:

If your chosen cat is from Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS), the Nine Lives Café team reviews the application directly.

To ensure each cat finds a safe, stable, and loving home, applications are reviewed with care. The review process may include:

• A look at veterinary care history to confirm consistent and responsible pet care

• A brief background check to ensure a safe environment

• A landlord check (if applicable) to confirm pet-friendly housing

• A general review for surrender reduction indicators, such as long-term commitment and preparedness for pet ownership

The review process typically takes 1–3 days, depending on shelter and staff availability. You’ll be notified once a decision has been made

Once approved, the café will contact you to schedule a pickup time for your new cat.
